How to detect MMP activity?

How does a FRET-based detection kit work?
A FRET peptide is used as the MMP substrate.
In intact peptide substrate, the fluorescence of the fluorophore is quenched by a QXL™ proprietary quencher.
In the presence of MMPs in the tested sample, the FRET peptide substrate is cleaved. The fluorescence of the fluorophore is released and can be monitored.
