Pre-Immune selection
of the host
Producing custom antibodies in animal hosts is not always a very reproducible process, as each host is different and will raise an immune response highly individual and not controllable.
Each host also has its own background immunity. As such, the serum of different hosts prior to immunization also varies. For some immunization protocols, this background immunity is important, as it may interfere with the final assay in which the antibody is to be used.
Selecting the best host to be immunized based on pre-immune serum testing is a good solution.
