Spiked bases correspond to non-equimolar mixtures of bases. Spiked oligonucleotides are useful when a determined ratio of degenerated bases is required at precise positions within the sequence. This is generally required when one wants to use the preferential genetic codons rather than to degenerate the wobble position with a statistical mix of dNTP.
